Weekly mileage:
Sweaty week. The river (yangjaecheon) is beautiful, the air is atrocious. The runs have been grand.
This week: 29k (Monday: 7k. Tuesday: 8.5k. Wednesday: 7k. Thursday: 6.5k)

Since I eat variations on the same thing (eggs/tofu, udon/brown rice, and shit-tons of veges) every night, I rarely post about food. Especially considering how much I love the stuff.
Tonight, though, was summin’ special: Toast with home-made hummus, grilled king oyster mushrooms and zucchini. Salad with chunks of cucumber, cherry tomato, buttercup squash, capsicum, and balsamic dressing.
Seoul Summer is kind of rubbish, but I sure am chuffed for some summer food.
I swear Korean lunch number two was taken at my hagwon today.
Honestly, Djibouti might win this one for me!
Last week’s mileage included quite an amazing first (well, first-in-awhile, at least)… A morning run! 6:30am, already fairly hot, 5.7km. Bringing last week’s total to around 27km.
This week so far: 8.5km. An inexplicably great run. Nothing special, just a general layer of awesome covering the whole run. May there be more of those in my future.
In other news, Tumblr is still being a mega pain in the bum and won’t let me upload photos. Therefore, I will resort to some ‘weekend in words’ summaries:
April 14th-16th: Dongdaemun, convenience store beers, kinect, ultimate frisbee, bikes, sunburn, mushrooms.
April 21st-23rd: Max, river, rain, jandals, free homebrews, hunger games, board games, stirfry, almond butter, americanos, kindles.
All in all, life is good. Weekends much more so than weekdays.
After spending about half an hour trying (and failing) to post a ‘my weekend was awesome!’ photo post, I have decided that Tumblr wants me to keep up my ‘most mind-numbingly boring tumblr’ trend. Another mileage post it is!
This week so far*: 15.5km. 7km (easy, gloriously springtastic) yesterday. 8.5km (slightly sluggish, but still gorgeous) today.
Audiobook: Catching Fire. Yep, Tumblr finally convinced me to cave in and read/listen to the damn things. My verdict? Nuffin’ special writing-wise, but about the perfect combination of gripping and easy to make for a great running companion.
(*Last week was around 25. Slacked on the tumbln’, but not too much on the runnin’)
I’ve heard legend of Korean Doctors’ love of arse injections many times, and today I finally had the pleasure of experiencing it firsthand.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I have no real problem with getting a needle in my bum, but I do wonder why it is assumed to be a necessary step in every course of treatment.
As well as his enthusiasm for arse injections, Dr Kim seemed to be quite a fan of pills. For my acute tonsillitis (ie. sore throat), I’ll be taking 4 mystery pills, 3 times a day.
I can’t flippin’ stand taking medicine, but this whole ‘can’t sleep, can’t eat, can’t really talk’ thing is getting a little old.
(P.S. No running for at least a few days. Wish my itchy feet luck!)
Fun fact about running with a gammy throat: You will find yourself spitting. A lot.
Anyway, mileage (so far): 13km. 6 slow, but fine, km at the river today.
Yesterday, I took a sick day from running. It was surprisingly (and stupidly) hard to convince myself to stay inside and shred/pilates instead of running. I am, if nothing else, a creature of habit*.
(*control freak?)
Yes.
One of the most unsettling movies I’ve ever seen.
Tilda kind of frightens me at the best of times, so this was intense.

Soup! Puree-ing all the things!
Tonight’s dinner: Pumpkin, broccoli, carrot, onion, zucchini and pepper soup. Blended to death. Thank fuckery I just bought a blender, eh?
Wish me luck, guys. Not being able to eat always causes a bit of an identity crisis for me. I eat, therefore I am. I do not eat? Therefore I am not.
I’m mostly kidding*.
(*Not really. Even my coteacher was so concerned- or at least surprised- at my lack of solids at lunchtime that she asked if I was ‘feeling like myself’ today…)
- Run. At all.
- Run in a t-shirt and shorts. Or really anything other than full-length, generally neon running gear.
- Run anywhere except on a clearly defined running path in a park or by a river.
- Run in the rain!
Today, I did all three and was…
- admonished by an ajoshi, angrily gesticulating (now, really, is that any different from gesturing? Just a slightly wankier alternative?) at the sky, presumably to show me that it was, in fact, raining. Thanks for the tip, ajoshi.
- chased (for a minute or so) by a umbrella wielding high school student. Good deed of the day?
- poked in the eye by approximately 300 umbrellas.
All in all, a fantastic, rainy, post-sick run. A little longer than planned, due to a wee, er, detour.
